The Head and the Heart

Time is a flat circle, or: Mapquest is back

I’ve been slowly replacing a lot of billionaire-owned apps and websites with alternatives, and it’s usually triggered by some dumb shit happening in the news. Last year, I replaced Spotify with a combination of Qobuz and a record player after they took money in exchange for advertising ICE jobs during the height of the Minnesota invasion. So recently, with Google Maps immediately changing “Lake Ontario” on a whim (breathtakingly stupid), I was reminded that I hadn’t replaced Maps yet.

Did you know that Mapquest is still around? The app is pretty cute too, pixel art themed, and instead of advertising random locations to you every time you use it, they’re charging $2 a month. I’m going to give it a try for the next couple of months.
